September 2005 Activity Log

S2 - Had the wheels spin-balanced at "Just Tires" today. Seems the last tech who did them at the same shop used clip-on weights on the inside edge instead of stick-on weights in the center of the wheel. At any rate, they all balanced, including the one the Kid hit on July 11, 2004 (Which lead to the repair and repainting the car Yellow).

Hope the wheel nuts are done early as I'm getting the itch to drive again!

S2 - Took the lug nuts to Metro Plating & Polishing to have them chrome plated. They will be done within two weeks and cost $10.00 each for a total of $160.00.

S2 - Removed all four wheels so I can take them to be balanced. While I have them off, I'll chrome the lug nuts as well.

Took photos of the suspension while the wheels are off.

Finally sold and removed the two pool tables from storage in the garage over the past weekend. Took today to clean and organize the garage. Moved the snow plow back into the garage so I can get the S2 and Volvo both in the driveway.

S1A - Took photos of the left front suspension and posted them at   - S1A Left front

Went to visit my Mom for a few days, so didn't do anything with either car.

S2 - Took some photos of the foot well area by request and posted them at - S2 Footwell.

S1A - Took some more photos today. Still discovering things about the car. The PO had installed a makeshift alarm that consisted of a pull switch and flasher relay connected to the horn so that when the alarm was tripped the horn would sound intermittently. Removed the whole mess.

S2 - Put the inside of the drivers door back together today. Installed a Blaupunkt 6x9 oval tri-axial speaker mainly because I had a pair I had never used and they fit (with some cutting). The passenger door electric window stopped working so I did not put the door back together. Will look at it later.

S1A - Was curious about the source of all the cracks in the paint so I loaded my orbital sander with 150-grit paper and started sanding the engine cover at a crack. Turns out that the cracks extend through all paint layers but not into the gel coat. The finish is red, over white primer, over red, over gray primer, over white primer. It's possible to remove the red top coat with lacquer thinner but it won't touch the white primer. Will have to investigate the best way to remove all of the paint down to the gel coat. Not ready to start the paint removal stage yet anyway.

S1A - Today I pushed the S1A out onto the driveway and gave the engine bay a good soaking with two cans of "Gunk Engine Brite". After letting it soak for 15 minutes I hosed it off and the engine bay looks a lot better. At least I can work there now without getting covered in grease.

Gave the entire car a good bath and when I cleaned all of the dirt that had collected under the bumper I found the numbers "0367" painted on the body. After some investigation I also found a label with the same numbers under the rear window. Odd that chassis number 460355 would have body number 460367 but I suppose stranger things have happened.
