Original chassis now sandblasted and powdercoated. White paint still original. Slotted in an old Ashby and Reed L block racing twin cam from their Escort racing days, while retaining the existing twin cam motor for a rebuild.
      • About to be reassembled after a strip/chassis sandblast and powdercoat and all bolt and hose replacement.
      • Engine No Was V25837, Now D16873B (ex Elan S4 36-8376)
    • Update 4/5/09:
      • Following a toooo lengthy restoration, the Europa is back together and ready for the Australian Lotus club National get together. The motor is now an L block, ex race motor, with double Weber 45s. Still some jetting issues at normal revs, but sounds great. Suspension is lowered using AVO springs and shocks. I have a renewed brake servo as well, so everything else, including paintwork is original.
      • Photo parked in front of a local park in the country town where I live. Pure coincidence it is called Europa.

    • When I bought it in 1976, there were several plaques on it which said "Specially built for Eugene A Lawrence" who was purportedly a Jamaican.
    • Now in a sorry condition - completely dismantled and hasn't turned a wheel for about twenty years, but partly restored with lots of new bits scattered around it in my garage.
    • I put over 100,000 miles on it before I took it off the road just after I became self employed, which is why I have never had the time to put it back together.

      • Decorated in the Lotus Gold Leaf colors, this is a very nice Europa. It has a new chassis, factory RHD, original beige interior (very good condition), all electrics work, 4 speed gearbox, twin cam engine (block and head completely stripped down and rebuilt in August 2012 – photos available). 91000 genuine miles and an extensive folder full of service history, older photos, original owners manual and lots of receipts. 100% genuine vehicle with great history and documentation. Not concourse, but definitely very very nice.

    • I'm currently in the process of getting the car ready for its local safety inspection prior to it being put on the road here in Canada. This has essentially comprised another mini-restoration process to make sure that everything is up to scratch. Its taken a while because I have been working abroad for much of the time but I'm hoping to get it checked over fairly soon now.

    • I have recently purchased a 1972 Twincam Europa. Chassis number 72041487P with a 4 speed 352 gearbox. It is Lotus yellow with a black interior and believe it is the original colour. I purchased the car from a private owner in London (UK) and imported it to Australia as a personal import. It is currently driveable and has UK registration but is in need of a range of repairs including waterpump replacement and brake overhaul before it will pass a registration inspection here in the ACT. I intend to obtain concessional (car club) registration soon and progressively restore it as a 'driving restoration'.

      • Finished in Lotus Pistachio (Lime Green) with a complete retrim in Black with contrasting Green Fabric by designer Paul Smitgh seat, door Inserts and roof covering plus new carpeting and crash pad.
      • Numbers of Previous keepers 5
      • Previous Owner:
      • The last keeper of the car was ex Hill Climb Champion Barry Lines
      • Mileage: 60182 miles
      • Barry Purchased the car in 2002 and took the car of the road in 2003, the car was then stripped down with a view of refurbishment and changing the colour back from the red it was in to it’s original colour Pistachio.
      • Due to racing commitments the project was placed on the back burner and that’s when I took over!
      • So what has been done:
        • On checking the car :
          • It has had twin Spider tanks fitted back in 1991 (Invoice)
          • Spax Gas adjustable all round, Stainless steel exhaust.
          • New Steering rack.
          • As the closures, glass was all removed along with the interior, bumpers, lighting and chrome the shell was repainted.
          • Next a trip up to Europa Guru, Richard Winter at Europa Engineering in Southport with my parts List, this included:
            • New Tinted Screen and Trim.
            • Crash pad.,demister Grills, dashboard end brackets, centre console
            • Complete Head Light units and fixings
            • Caliper Overhaul kits
            • Top wishbone spindles
            • Wheel Bearings
            • Master Cylinder
            • Track rod ends
            • Brake pipes Copper and flexible
            • The next step was to send the complete Interior to Classic Car Specialist Trimmers Weavers of Withington Herefordshire
            • The Engine had been turned over by hand on a regular basis and the cylinders oiled.
            • The actual drive train was in excellent condition so it was not perceived a problem to run the car up once the build up process was complete.
            • Subsequently on starting the car the water pump decided to leak!
            • So as any Lotus Twin Cam aficionado will tell you, this means the removal of the Cylinder Head and sump to remove the front cover that carries the water pump, this job being made worse by the fore and aft location of the engine in the Europa meaning the front pulley is right up against the bulkhead!
            • So a trip to local Lotus Specialist Paul Matty for water pump and gasket set and then a call to my local engine Guru Clive at Ace Motors Hereford.
            • We took the opportunity to check the head and bores whilst it was off and the condition of both where excellent.
            • Next It was a trip to Snowdon Auto Electrical in Hereford to get the electrics all functioning.
            • So where are we now!
            • The car turned a wheel for the first time just a week ago after 7 years in hibernation and surprisingly with very few problems!
            • The engine pulled strong and the gear change for a Europa was not bad at all!
            • There was Slight Judder at first when pulling off in first gear ( a common Issue with the cable gear change configuration on the model) I have adjusted the cable and it seems to be getting better all the time it is run and the cable is becoming more fluid.
            • I adjusted the “Toe In “ and the steering and turn in came right to me !
            • (These cars can really Handle)
            • The brakes pulled up straight and true,I noticed that the car did not have a servo which might be why I thought it had more feel than another Europa I drove recently which I thought was a bit over the top ( especially in the wet!! )
            • Overall condition: As Usual, I shall be as critical as I can (Please Read My feedback on other classic car sales.
            • Chassis: No problems with the integrity.
            • Body Shell and Paint work:
              • The shell overall is in excellent condition , there is no crazing or delaminating and just a couple of little surface cracks .
              • The paint finish its self carry an excellent shine and again only the slightest of micro blister on small area of the bonnet (I am being Hyper Critical! )
              • None of the above takeaway from the overall excellent appearance of the car.
            • Interior:
              • Looks brilliant so 70’s so cool!
            • Electrical:
              • At the time of writing it all works, Windows included.!
            • Drive Train :
              • Excellent, Good oil Pressure and smooth valve gear, Excellent Transaxle with no wind up
            • Overall Conclusion :
              • These cars do not come up for sale very often and are highly (and quite rightly ) sought after both by the collector and enthusiast alike
              • This particular car has had the best part of £6000 spent on her to get her through the re commissioning process and is now an excellent standard bearer for the breed.
              • Finished in arguably the best Colour combination she attracts looks where ever she goes.
              • So go on,get out your flares ,grow you side burns, but I suggests you leave your platforms at home as you will never operate the pedals!!
      • I cannot think of a better way to enjoy classic motoring!
      • Good Luck with the Auction and Thanks for Looking.
      • Regards
      • Dave.

    • I bought this car 1988, the car was at that time newly imported from England. In june 1990 my brothers had an acident with the car and after that I had to renovate it for about 15 years.
    • When I started to restore the Lotus I started with the seats. I took of the old clothing and suddenly just under the headrest I found a letter where some previous owner had written "Where is this car now?" complete with there adress and name. Unfortunately I dropped this letter so I have not had the opportunity to contact these people. The history of the car is always interesting. Maybe these people drop in on this site some day, I hope so!
    • The car is now in very good original condition, except for a few glassfibre cracks. Read more about it and see pictures on my homepage.

    • Original 40-year old unrestored/weathered condition, engine was running about 10-years ago, front frame is rusted/broken, disassembly previously commenced.
    • 2055R was last driven in 1983, then parked by the PO when the frame broke. He purchased 2724R in 1988 to use the frame, but never got the body off either car. He then purchased another frame from a racer/autocrosser in Michigan, which had been stitch-welded, that I also purchased. My plan is to build a Zetec-swapped street-legal autocross car, picking the best of the pieces I have. After that point, the resultant pile of parts will determine whether I attempt to construct a second car, sell the entire parts lot, or piece out whatever remains.

      • Nice and complete lotus restoration project, the engine was rebuild 10 years ago, never driven after that, so zero miles on the engine.
      • Engine starts, idles and revs freely, no smoke (request videos). As far as i can tell the body and chassis are straight and undamaged.
      • Ten years ago the car got new brakes, new clutch, new water pump, the car sat after that. It has only 27,242 miles on it.
      • Clean Texas title. Rust free car!! The chassis shows only signs of light surface rust.
      • The car needs complete sorting out, rear right wheel lower link bent (see photos), that's the way I got it, steering rack needs attention.
      • Excellent original chromes, excellent glass all around, electric windows go up and down, all emblems there, gauges need sorting.
      • Interior and paint see photos, all factory original, usual stress cracks on body, no big deal.

      • Just bought a 1974 Twin Cam VIN 74/2110R. The Pistachio body is perfect, but the car has been partially disassembled. The head has been pulled off the engine revealing that it had not been rebuilt, as previously thought. I do not know what the engine number is. Thus far items that are missing include the rear cross beam, the trailing arm mounts/bushings and reinforcement plates, the "tunnel top", rear hub bearings, and starter. Undoubtedly, I will discover that other parts have gone astray since the car was disassembled. Many of the components will need to be rebuilt before the car turns a wheel. Speaking of wheels, the car has slot mags.

    • This 1972 Lotus Europa Twin Cam is a great winter project. It was last driven in October 1975 when the timing chain let go. The owner had the engine completely rebuilt by Phase 4 Machine, reinstalled it in the car and then never finished putting the car back on the road. The engine has been oiled and turns freely. The car was kept on blocks in a garage until recently. The rebuilt engine and new clutch have zero miles. The car itself has only 36,873 miles. Only two owners have owned it. A small number of spare parts including a complete set of never used hub caps are included in the sale. Owners manual and workshop manual are also included. $6,500

    • I am the second owner. I had the minor crack in the rear repaired and the car painted. I chose burgundy over the original electric orange. There are four coats of color and two of clear. The glass is clear and scratch free. The interior is in great shape considering the age. There are no cracks in the seats. The car was garaged until I bought it. I have the original 1971 license plates. The wheels were cleaned and painted. The tires are serviceable, but should probably be replaced within a few thousand miles. The doors have new seals. The brakes work fine and do not pull one way or the other. The engine runs well as does the transmission. Shifting is smooth and crisp. The engine is the Big Valve version and has plenty of power.

    • The car is missing the windshield and the gauges. It is presently painted like JPS with the required gold pin stripe. All the wheels were frozen up. 3 flat tires and had to have some help to DRAG it on the trailer (cut one of the front brake lines and got 3 of the tires to roll . Let’s see found a petrified cat in the passenger foot well and lots of raccoon poop. The interior had been removed, refinished and stored inside. Well so far it has washed up nice and getting the neighbor kid to clean the interior out of all the debris and carpet. The next step is to get it on our lift to check out the bottom. I have more information on it from the late 70’s as it is from the St. Louis area, I don’t have that with me today but can add it later.

    • The history on the Lotus is interesting and when I came across the car, I bought it because I decided it simply had to be fate. Since you collect stuff on the Europa, you might have come across a piece in the March 27, 1989 issue of Autoweek. They used to run a column on the last page called Escape Road that wrote up interesting car stories. This one was about a father and son who fixed up an old gold leaf edition Europa with some special ground effects designed and built by Clark Lincoln, a GM design engineer. At the time I thought it might be neat to someday do this myself, so I stashed the article away in a folder.
    • Then in late 1996 I was cruising Woodward Avenue, looking in at various exotic car stores because I had time to kill before a business meeting. I had recently sold the Porsche and a Triumph GT-6 that followed it, and was looking for a new toy. A Lotus Esprit caught my eye as I drove by a shop I had never seen before called Auto-Europe. I pulled over to look in the window to see a Lotus 23 and a nicely restored MGA in the showroom with the Esprit. They weren't open yet, so I came back after my meeting, confirmed that I really don't fit into an Esprit (I'm slim, but 6'3") and took the MGA for a spin. I told the salesman, Eric Shick, that I was really interested in a Lotus and asked if he know of any available. He had an Elan Plus 2 that he was restoring, but wanted to unload, so I agreed to meet him later at their shop in Pontiac. I showed up early and "tried on" a Europa that was there for service, and surprisingly it fit like a glove. Eric arrived a few minutes later, screaming in to the lot in a Lotus 7. I looked at the Plus 2 and told him I wasn't interested in that much work, but asked if he knew of any Europas for sale. He said he wasn't sure, but he thought a customer, Clark Lincoln, might be looking to unload his Europa, which Erik himself had owned twice before selling it to Clark.
    • I connected up with Clark and he explained how he had built the molds and fabricated the fiberglass ground effects as a styling exercise (he later sold the molds to some guy in Pennsylvania who tricks out Europas with a spyder frame and twin turbo Mazda rotary engines) [Note: The guy Erroll refers to who bought the ground effects molds is Jerry Fink of Laminar Concepts in Media, Pa. He introduced the body kit as the "Evolution Europa" in 1999 and it was reviewed in the July, 1999 issue of Lotus reMARQUE. It also appeared in the July 2001 edition of Kit Car Magazine.].
    • After putting that much work into the body Clark decided to fix up the rest. When he got he car from Erik, the frame had been "bent" (don't know the specifics), but I think that is why he used it for a styling exercise. He decided to swap out the frame entirely for a straight one, and kept the original engine, transmission, etc. After meeting Clark that first time, I went rummaging for the article I had stashed away seven and a half years earlier, made the connection, decided this had to be fate, so I bought the car.
    • It had an aftermarket sunroof in it that I didn't want, so I spent the winter stripping out the custom interior and dash Clark had built, rewired the car totally from scratch, removed the sunroof and closed off the hole with fiberglass, and built my own custom dash. That next summer when I started driving it, I found it too difficult to get in and out of, and once inside, I was slouching and messing up my back. Then came that day when I was leaning against the wall in my garage, staring at the car with a jig saw in hand, muttering "cut it or sell it" repeatedly to myself."
    • [Note: Erroll began a redesign in 2005 but parted the car out in April of 2006.]

    • This car has had a total frame-off nut and bolt restoration. I have owned it for just over twenty years. The lengthy restoration was completed in January 2011.
    • The car was originally ordered and delivered in England to a USAF pilot that was stationed there in the 1970's. He died in 1976 before returning to the US from a Swine Flu Shot. The car was then shipped from England to the state Florida in the US. It sat a his widows house for several years. The car then went to the Detroit, Michigan for another few years before I bought it and had it shipped to OH in November 1990.
    • The original color was blue with black interior. It is now Ferrari Red with black interior. The original Engine has been replacde with a BDS Twin Cam Type B. It has a 4-speed transmission.

    • Unmolested 1972 Lotus Europa Twin Cam with only 40,294 total miles. An original New Mexico car with no rust issues, it has spent its life in a dry climate and inside my heated shop since I purchased it about a year ago from a good friend in New Mexico. It runs great and drives great. The handling is just amazing - even on its Yokohama A008 tires that look almost new (only 500 miles, but are almost 20 years old)! My friend owned the car since 1989 but did not drive it much. And, after getting my old beat-up body in and out of it with my bad knees and back, I now understand why!! It's a really fun car to own and drive and a real attention-getter!
    • Body Condition: The paint looks good but does have the usual gelcoat stress cracks. There appears to have been some minor body damage at some time around the right front headlight (see closeup picture) since there are more cracks there, but I see no evidence of major damage and I found none noted in the extensive maintenance records. (I have complete maintenance records with the car that go back to the original purchase date!) Other minor stress cracks are on the front and rear deck lids - just the usual for a Europa. All glass in the car is perfect. The interior is very presentable in the original "oatmeal" color upholstery. The carpet is worn on the driver's side floor and covered with a mat. Door panels look good but have wear around the edges. The seat covers are very good with one seam torn on the lower left of the driver's seat. The interior trim around the windshield looks sloppy - I'm not sure what's supposed to be there, but I don't think it's original. The headliner is very good. Doors open and shut perfectly. The wooden dash has some surface cracking and "curling" - appears to be laminate, but I think it's a solid wood dashboard (?). The top dash cover is warped somewhat, but not cracked or broken. A previous owner installed the glove box door at some point, which works fine, but isn't original. I don't know what kind of wheels are on the car (Triumph maybe?), but they look great and I added the sexy Lotus logos on the hubcaps!
    • Running gear: The car starts easily and runs great - it idles rough until warmed up but then smooths out and revs and idles great. Lots of power for a 1600 cc engine! The engine suffered a broken timing chain at 33,000 miles and was professionally and completely rebuilt with new valves and guides, bored .020 over with new pistons, rings, and bearings and all done right. The original carburetors were replaced with SU's at some point. Have the original carbs with the car. My buddy spent a ton of money on the brakes, replacing both power brake boosters with new Lockheed units. The brakes work pretty well, but still need attention, I think - it's probably the wheel cylinders which just need going through. They were rebuilt - not many miles, but YEARS ago, so I suspect the rubbers have gotten hard. No major oil leaks on the car except from the d*#m transaxle shifter. I think they ALL leak there! The shifter works well (once you learn the technique!), but I'm sure the bushings need replaced for a "crisper" shifter feel. No other fluid leaks - gas, brakes, or water. The gauges work except the fuel gage - my friend said it worked when he had it - Lucas strikes again! I have not spent time trying to get it to work, but I expect only a bad connection somewhere. There are NO major issues with the car. It needs only minor tinkering to make it mechanically perfect.

      • Chassis was sand blasted, inspected, primed and repainted. All brakes and steering assembly were rebuilt. Front suspension was rebushed and the front springs were replaced with AVO shocks with ride height adjustment. The front rotors have been replaced with Brembo cross drilled rotors. Rear suspension is stock but the brakes have been relined. The tyres are almost new Yokohama AVS 185 60R 13's.
      • The door pins have been replaced by custom brass pins which will prevent any seizing problems. All new door and window seals are installed while bumpers have been re chromed to a very high quality.
      • Motor was rebuilt by Lou Devries in Sioux City. Bored 3 thou over with new pistons, rings, valves, water pump, smoothing to chambers to aid airflow. The headers are custom and fashioned after the headers of the Lotus 47 and are ceramic coated. The strombergs have been rebuilt and now have B1Y needles, K & N filters, new electric fuel pump with a fuel regulator.
      • The fuel tanks have been replaced by custom polished stainless steel units complete with new fuel sending unit.
      • Gearbox has had all new seals and gear change mechanism has had new bushings. New clutch, clutch cable and pressure plate have all been replaced.
      • When I owned the car in 2008 many parts appear to have general wear and tear on all these years after restoration so I decided to perform a throughout detailing on all necessary mechanical and cosmetic parts.
      • I changed all front and rear bearings Gear lever oil seal and master brake cylinder and new Goodridge stainless steel brake hoses.
      • A new set of Minilight wheel and tyres was put in to give a more sporty look and handling.
      • I spent the whole summer of 2009 to finish the Interior with new Burl Walnut dash, new upholstered seats, new central console and armrest set up, new seat belts and carpet.
      • All panel wiring was re altered according to factory set up and all lights and gauges functioned.
      • The next step I will be installing a Weber DCOE head with 2 40DCOE carbs to see if it help uprating performance.
      • I participated in October's British Car Day in Oakville Toronto and was awarded 2nd place in Lotus group.

    • Just purchased a basket-case resto project. New to the marque but have had a secret desire since high school many years ago. Anyways, I picked a fairly do-able project, a '72, yellow (L07 ?) Twin Cam. Doesn't appear to have ever been bent or in an accident. The motor has been completely freshened by R.D. Engineering I believe. Chassis number is 72052301R.

      • Has undergone a "driver" body-off refurbishment. In other words, it's been done more for function than appearance, and without too much attention to originality. It's by no mean a concours car, but on the other hand it's not a mess either.
      • The car is now insured, registered, passed its State Inspection and is fully road-legal.

        • Hello your [sic] bidding on a 1972 Lotus Europa. Runs good but needs brakes to be worked on & the clutch isn't working. I think its stuck. Its original 47000 miles and no rust in it, the interior needs a good cleaning as for the paint if you wanted a show car then paint it.

    • Alas after close to 2 years of slow progress, I am giving up on getting my TCS back on the road. Lack of funds and declining health plus the constant use of my Lotus as evidence of my vast wealth (anyone figure that one out?) make this a sad occasion. The car is complete and was running just fine until 2 years ago when the head gasket blew as it was heading out of RS Motorsports. After a lot of time and energy I got the head off to find that the bores were scored and it should have a rebore. I got a little further with the disassembly before bigger issues got me sidetracked. The wheels are off and the front brakes are off as these really needed a rebuild also.
    • The car has twin Webers and a lightweight flywheel. It was completely rebuilt around a Spyder chassis by the PO in the early part of the decade: I have had it just about 4 1/2 years. Originally metallic blue, the car is BRG with a wide yellow stripe running down the center of the body. Looks better than it sounds. It has some nice wheels - also yellow. I have much of the receipts for the new parts that the PO put in - For what it is worth they spent a lot of money. It is 4 speed and I have a spare 4 speed gearbox that the PO bought and sold to me.
    • Not that it guarantees anything but the car was never abused by me. If anything it was not driven enough by me or the PO.
    • It needs some TLC for sure, from someone who wants a project.
    • Its a sad day but I have to be realistic about it getting out on the road under my ownership.

The title was misplaced during several "project car" status transfers all done with little more than a bill of sale. The last registered owner could therefore apply for a duplicate and provide it to me. It is currently awaiting restoration or parting out dependent on the title search. Its engine has already gone to a vintage racer who needed a period correct block. It will be Zetec / Duratec powered if it is rebuilt.

The interior seats and panels are darn near perfect original condition with no tears or splitting seams scuffs or marks. They are the original Champagne that were optional only in the special editon Europa. The carpet is new top shelf Milleken matching Champagne and is perimeter bound. The dash cover is new with a french stiched front edge and the dash facia is new heavier gauge teakwood with an imron clear coat. The car comes with the original steering wheel not the aftermarket unit that is in some of the pictures. • Cosmetic - good. Mechanical - fair. Has 2L Ford Zetec engine with NG3 gearbox, and Megasquirt fuel injection using Suzuki GSX 600 throttle bodies. Needs rewiring, front suspension, gearbox output seals, Windshield leak fix, and other mechanical repairs. Engine and gearbox replacement done by previous owner, as was the Megasquirt EFI, so I'm not the person to contact for info on how to do it - perhaps with time.

      • Here is another Europa I owned and sold in May of 2006 to Mike Shambarger in Corpus Christy TX. I saw it for sale again last year on Craigslist. Here are photos I took of it at All British Car day at White Rock Lake Dallas TX in April 2006. I purchased it in 2004 restored it after it sat for 15 years. See above photos. Note the blue 1987 Aston Martin Lagonda next to it in the photos is mine as well.

    • I have a 1972 Lotus Europa TC Federal, serial #72082439R. It is the original Pistachio Lime Green color, and has the original Twin Cam big valve engine and transmission as far as I know (though I don’t know the engine or transmission number). It is a 4 speed. I purchased it from Wirewheel in Florida in October 2010. The previous owner(s) had removed various parts (emissions equipment, brake boosters, etc.), most of which I did not bother to replace. I just had it repaired until it was in running condition (though it was by no means fully restored), and used it as a daily driver. I drove it over 24,000 miles in the last 18 months. Recently, however, I had a slow speed accident (no fun at all) and now it needs front end fiberglass work and new headlights. I plan to repair it and continue to use it as a daily driver.

      • I bought Europa Twincam 2481R in 1980, from the St. Louis Lotus dealer, Dan Gurney’s Checkpoint America. It was my only car from 1980 until about 1985. I bought the car with about 20,000 miles on it, and by the time I sold it in March of 2001, to a guy named Bill from outside of Detroit, I have put at least another 100,000 miles on it. I had the engine rebuilt twice, and had a complete restoration done by a company called Shadowflight in Seattle, back in 1990. At that time, they added the gray rockers, modeled on the later Twincams, below the doors, and frenched in the side marker lights, along with painting the car a non-original pearlescent white. They also did a complete interior refresh, with a new walnut dash, good-quality leather for the seats, and Wilton-style gray wool carpeting. Later, I had an insert made for my wife – a single piece that replaced the seat-bottom squab with one much thicker, to raise her up, and a seatback that curved more naturally, with a wood dowel that you tucked under the headrest. It was a good-looking, excellent solution for the shorter driver.
      • The car has a 4-speed trans, but I swapped it for another 4-speed when the teeth broke in 1999 or so, therefore the trans # will not match what it originally came with.
      • Attached are some pictures I have, first, of the buyer ‘Bill’ (I don’t recall his last name, and have not heard from him since – I fear what might have happened to the car, as I loved it, but had no place to store it.) The other pictures are of me driving it one last time to meet the shipping trucker, and signing to have it shipped to the new owner in Michigan.
      • I hope we find that the car found an owner who will take care of it.

      • No news on the Europa yet, I passed the details on to my friend who was looking to buy it but he is playing the waiting game. The history is that it was bought from the guy in the US on ebay and shipped over here, it was then parked up on an industrial site and left out in the elements, not registered or put on the road. The site is now being cleared for development and the site owner wants it gone but the current owner feels it must be worth double what he paid for it by now! Unfortunatly it has deteriorated and is probably only worth a few thousand, so unless the owner wakes up and does a deal quick it will be cleared with the site! sheer madness! I have included a few photos of it as it stands now with rotten tyres, peeling paint and full of water (what a shame).

    • Update 9/25/09
      • I bought this Europa to restore and drive. I've had it for a tad over two years. I haven't been able to finish it because a degenerative disc problem in my neck effectively keeps me from getting into the car! I've spent at least 8000.00 on this wonderful car, but even if I could finish it, I won't be able to drive it.
      • I've had it stripped and painted it a single stage PPG red with PPG clear over it( the original color was white, but was poorly painted red when I got it).. The fuel tanks are custom aluminum made to match the original size and location of the rusty steel originals. I added an electric fuel pump as the mechanical pump was inop; I kept the mechanical pump though, I assume it is rebuidable. I had the master cylinder rebuilt by White Post Restorations. I re-veneered the instrument panel with walnut used new labels as original and covered both with many layers of clear. The part of the frame I could access was scraped and painted. I made a new aluminum skid plate as original.
      • The exterior is smooth and straight. While not a show car finish, it's quite presentable and could be repolished to be even better.
      • The interior is great except for the driver's floor carpet and a small tear in the driver's seat near the headrest. The carpet is a simple black loop pile that should be easy to match- the rest of the carpet is fine. Door panels are fine.
      • The tires are good, the spare is a matching alloy wheel.
      • The car is VERY complete. The trim not visible in the pictures is there and in good condition. Locks, latches, lights, window motors, glass, console and parcel bin are good and are ready for installation. The original air filter and even the jack (in its original bag) are included.
      • Included but not yet installed are seals and fuzzy strips for the door windows.
      • To finish and put on the road the car needs: a new battery, a rebuild kit for the Strombergs or a carb conversion and reinstallation of the exterior and interior trim.
      • Two more things are worth mentioning. The doors are sagging and need the adjustment common to most all Europas. They do close now.
      • Although I have had the car running and have moved it enough to make sure the clutch and trans function, I haven't had it on the road, I can't vouch for its mechanical condition. It has been my belief that once the carbs were rebuilt, it would be in good shape mechanically.

      • This 1972 mid-engine GT coupé Type 74 Europa Twin Cam features the a 126 hp (94 kW) aspirated by Dell'Orto carburetors, a Renault 4-speed gearbox (Type 352) Power Windows and a re-designed body shell to improve rearward visibility. ONLY 1,580 (? ed) cars were shipped as the Europa Twin. It weighs in at a lightweight of Only 740 kg (1631 lb), had a top speed of 123 mph (198 km/h), did 0–60 mph in 7.0 seconds, and ran the 1/4 mile in 14.9 sec when new. The Europa was designed and built to be an embodiment of Chapman's oft-stated philosophy of automotive design: "Simplify, then add lightness." Because of this & 4 WHEEL INDEPENDENT Suspension the car's handling prompted automotive writers to describe the Europa as the nearest thing to a Formula car for the road.

      • I bought Europa #2556R from VIP Classics in San Diego. I hope the car's nice condition (I know it has some paint checking and this should be fixed). I'll send you pictures once I receive the car ( 5-6 weeks...) I'm a huge Esprit fan (I've owned 10 of them, 4 currently) and it's the first time I explore another Lotus model & buying in the USA - car "unseen".

    • 2/19/09:
      • I bought the car last year around March/April in San Diego and waited until September to have it delivered to me here in Geneva, Switzerland. As it arrived it was in a very poor condition, far from how it was described. However it was a very untouched car, very original despite its condition and I knew I could bring it back to life correctly and that I would look VERY nice once finished. So here we go after a full repaint, servicing and many new parts.

    • I just picked up a used spare shell. No Title as it was sold separate to someone in Europe (allegedly) However the VIN tag is still on the shell.
    • I will be stripping the shell and using the spare parts to complete my rebuild of 3649R. The shell will be kept for any bodywork salvage I need.
